Week 6: Welcome to SanDiego!!

Sorry I didn't update you all sooner.  I did not get an email this week but I got something better!  A phone call on Tuesday from San Francisco during her layover en-route to San Diego!  It was great to hear her voice.  She sounded excited, nervous, and tired.  (They had a very early flight)  I am SO anxious to get her first email from the mission field.

Tuesday evening I did get an email from her Mission President with a group photo (about 12 missionaries) and one with just her and the Mission President and his wife.   You can tell from the group picture that they ALL were exhausted from their first day.

Week 5: Mexico (me-hi-co)

when it rained the crazy mexico rain for the first time this last week...i had to change my clothes.

(My silly girl loves the rain!)

WOOOOO MY LAST PDAY IN THE CCM!
can i say im sooooooo excited?

Visitors center.....at the temple....Selfie

my spanish is....well, my pronunciacion is pretty good and i can speak pretty fast but my grammar is.......steadily progressing, so i guess thats good. I just say whatever i want to, however fast i want to. my comp thinks im super good at spanish and im just like nah, man......i just talk fast, it just seems like it. and im pretty good at understanding what theyre saying....i end up teaching most of the lessons sometimes because i can actually understand most of the questions/answers. and sometimes when we´re in a lesson he´ll say something and she doesnt understand and then the lesson starts not to make sense and i cringe...but esta bien, shes doing better than most the people here, so im a pretty lucky missionary.

oh yeah elder bednar came on saturday! of course he talked about how we need to stop worrying about ourselves and get over ourselves, which is true. but the thing that i got the most out of, which the spirit told me, elder bednar didnt say this directly, is that we are called on our missions to love, not to baptize. I think that as long as we can be loving and show Heavenly Father´s love for them as an instrument in His hands, we can be successful missionaries. I honestly dont think being a good missionary has anything to do with baptism. but what do i know, im still stuck in the CCM,. but i am leaving on the 26th woot!

We also got to go to the temple today, which was pretty awesome, but i wish we couldve gone through it. i bought an hlj ring and a super mexican looking shirt that i probably wont wear, but hey im in mexico, ive got to do something. the thing i miss the most is being able to go to the temple every week, sometimes twice a week. It´s kind of been rough. When an apostle of the lord was speaking to us, i felt similar feelings that i feel in the temple and when he got up to leave i started to tear up a little.....i honestly didnt think it would be a problem for me, but i really miss going to the temple. Whenever i got frustrated i went to the temple, whenever i felt confused i went to the temple, whenever i felt doubtful of whatever things i went to the temple.    its been rough :)

we´ll see if i can email next week, i have no idea :)

Love you,

Hermana Lapp

Week 4: Another letter from our Favorite Missionary!!!

May 12, 2015

It was so fun to be able to talk to Scarlett on Mother's Day.  She sounds really good and upbeat.  I didn't cry...but she had to cut the call short so she could call her Dad really quick (since there isn't a Father's Day call) and then she called me back to say Happy Mothers Day one more time.
I sent her some Krispy Kreme Donuts last week (there are companies in Mexico that deliver them to the MTC) and she ate one and put them in her closet.  By that night they were full of bugs, so she had to throw them away.  This week I had a Care package delivered to her with a loaf of bread, Peanut butter, and grape jelly and some snack bars and Gingerale.  She has been having tummy problems.  She and everyone else I have talked to say the food is not too great there so hopefully she will feel better soon.
She didn't send anymore pics so I am posting a couple of pictures of a pre-mission photoshoot I [made her] do.....she thought it was kind of ridiculous but she humored me and they turned out great!

Here is Today's letter.

OUr investigators are our teachers and i have 3 now.....christian, raul, and jesus. They basically take on the charactar of someone they taught in their own mission or someone they know who is not a member. The sunday devotionals are almost always an old devotional. But we have tuesday ones too. Sometimes they are people that work here like the head of the mtc or the president of the mtc or the area 70...but we have 2 a week so usually they are just a video. yesterday it was so hot all day and then that night during language study where we basiclaly have free reign, it rained outside so i begged my companion to go out there with me so we could cool off and enjoy the storm in mexico. While we were out there, she wanted to scare the elders who were doing TALL in the computer lab so we knocked on the window and ran around the building where they couldnt see us. We walked all the way around and back into our building and the elders were heading to the bathroom in our building, so they caught us. Ah man, it reminded me of my pranking days where my pranks were dumb and i always got caught! Good times though. Elder parsons was like....you guys are looking a little wet....what were you doing out there. The elders in our district are cool, theyure like our big brothers. Theyre a little older than us....one is almost 22 and one is almost 21.

Because no one is here during the spring, we have a ridiculous amount of teacher too, which is awesome. theyre so cool im going to miss them a lot. We always joke around with them. One calls himself the mexican brad pitt, one i call hermano horchata because his last name reminds me of horchata. the girl is my favorite though. She took me to the doctor when i was sick (almost against my will) and got me some medicine. she is seriously the coolest . oh! one of the guys from mexico that works here said san diego mission is little mexico, so thats cool.

Sunday morning i was thinking about how i dont feel like i have the spirit with me like other missionaries do. I was reading in matt. 26:36-44 about the suffering in gethsemane. specifically the part where the apostles feel asleep. I realized that like the apostles, i was asleep. He asks me to think of him in all things, in all errors and i have not done that. in verse 41it says that if i watch and pray i will be protected and i will have the spirit wiht me because i am human and i am weak, but through him i can be made strong. I shared this in district meeting and sacrament meeting when i got called on to give a talk, which was perfectly about the atonement that sunday. I am glad i gave a talk that day.

We also watched the character of christ by elder bednar for the devo on sunday, which i have already read, but its even better at the mtc because its about missionary work and the one i read was given at byu so its a little different. I wish i could watch it everyday. but by the time movie night came around, i was so tired and we watched 3 short movies. one was the one about garments, a really cool movie about john tanner, and then a really old movie about christ that was actually pretty sad. I was so tired though i could hardly pay attention, its both good and bad when you feel the spirit so much that you literally feel like you cant move.

The mtc is pretty boring. i try not to eat very much mexican food for fear that it will make me sick....good times. our days seem longer and longer, but the weeks seem shorter and shorter, its a weird experience. i cant wait to be out in the field though. Its going to be so much more fulfilling.

Well, theres not much else to write about since i talked to you on sunday. It was great to talk to you.

Are you updating my blog too?

also, sorry i cant write alot, i only get an hour

Love,

Hermana Lapp

Week3:Last week's letter

SORRY I didn't post last week!  ya'll get to read 2 today.

May 5, 2015

Thanks for the pics!

We have 2 investigators now, Raul and christian. Raul doesnt really know what he wants out of the gospel and christian has a lot of questions and we dont have enought time to answer them, Theyre definitely more difficult that our 1st investigator, but weve been told other districts investigators are harder to teach, so i guess we got lucky. A bunch of people got sick the past couple of days, so lets hope i odnt catch it. ive heard its terrible.

Sundays we have movie night and we watched meet the mormons, which was awesome again. We also watched an amazing devotional by richard G scott. We sang a  closing song and when the girl was about to give the closing prayer, elder scott interrupted her to give the best part of the talk, he said: remember the lord has called you to succeed not to fail. He will not abandon you.} althoguh this is about missionary work, i think it can apply to the lives of everyone. He sent us on this earth to succeed in all we do, not to fail in all we do in this life, we just need to trust in Him and He will help us.

The mexicans outside these wall continue to party. Sometimes their music is so loud we can hear it clear as day in our little fortress of solitude.

You wont be surprised by this, but ive already lost a bunch of stuff around the mtc. I always find it, except i lost my waterbottle i brought with me and the one i bought from the tienda. I cant seem to find those. im alreadty going to need a new bag when i get to the states and probablu some newe clothes.

Fast suncay was pretty nice because they dont feed us so we really cant eat! theres not a lot to say about the ccm the food has made me sick to my stomach a few times now, but most of the time its ok.

thank yoiu for all the things you said mom. youre sweet. I loved all the quotes too. I also appreciate all the people who email me even though muy responses are shory, we dont have a lot of time. im so excited to get real letters in the mail!

Have a good week.

Love always,

Hermana Lapp
