Week 7.... First Full Week in the Mission Field. Ramon, CA

Tuesday June 2, 2015

Well, my first week was interesting.  The Spanish is good...I can speak pretty well but I can't understand what people are saying. Especially now that I'm speaking to people who aren't teachers, it's hard. Right now I'm in the most northern part of the mission, so there aren't as many Spanish speakers, but basically all the people who lived here as kids know English, but anyone else doesn't, so we speak more Spanish than you would expect. I live in Ramona, California. Its a small town for California....kind of like Kuna but with more stores and a lot more traffic.  I am in a branch right now.

My companion (well, trainer) is Hermana Briggs. She's from Seattle Washington and she's pretty awesome! I'll send pictures next week when I have some....I forget to take them. But I write in my Journal and that's most important. The mission life is crazy. My journal is probably super entertaining to read. Sometimes its super spiritual and sometimes it's just filled with stuff to amuse my posterity. Personally, I think it's a good balance.

Also my camera died when I went to the temple, but I get to go every 90 days, so I'll go again and get pictures and someone is supposed to send us pictures eventually. the inside of the San Diego temple is GORGEOUS. But the outside is gorgeous too. We took a walk outside of it when we were done....oh man I loved it.

Miss you!

Love,
Hermana Lapp

Ok I have time, so I'm going to keep writing.

in a couple weeks at zone conference we get iPads, which will be pretty cool. It will be such an awesome tool in the work, plus I won't have to carry as much around as I do now...

My first night in the field, I slept at the Mormon battalion and I helped the battalion sisters teach lessons, in Spanish. I also visited the battalion and it was so awesome, you have to go there. But mostly you have to go to the San Diego temple. The battalion sisters were so sweet and so awesome. It was funny though, because Wednesday was transfer meeting and the battalion sisters have their own transfer meeting, plus they have transfer meeting in their pioneer clothes so they had to get all dressed up. It's crazy though, because they have to go an extra week in the MTC just for visitors' center training. For the Spanish speaking sister that's 7 weeks! Isn't that crazy??

Anyway, I'm not sure what else to write about. the pictures of me my first day are terrible, don't judge, I was traveling literally all day. I was the only Spanish missionary from the CCM and the rest were from Provo so I ate dinner while we had a meeting at the mission home...yeah. But I got to have a one on one car ride with Hermana Schmitt (the president's wife) because they picked up the other missionaries way earlier in the day. She even contacted someone at the airport! She's seriously so connected with the spirit. She came out to Ramona with my companion a couple weeks ago and one of our investigators with the most potential is one Hermana Schmitt wanted to visit because she felt a prompting. That's pretty awesome. Anyway, all the other missionaries got to take naps that day and I had to get up the earliest/travel the most and I didn't even get a nap! But it's ok, I prayed that morning for energy to get through the day, and the Lord gave it to me :)

Alright! We get 2 hours to email and I type super fast, so here I am again! You're all so lucky, you'll get to hear everything from me.

Ok, it's a rule in my mission that we have to run every mon, wed, and fri. Plus my district likes to play sports together on the offdays so....yippee I get to do that. It's cool, though. Im just trying to be patient with it. I'm trying to train my running. Yesterday I did half a lap (we run on a track, thank goodness) running and half a lap walking the entire 30 minutes. Next time im just going to go to the next line, and then the next line until I can run a lap without stopping, then I'm going to increase my laps. That's right! This girl who hates running with a fiery passion will run!

Are you making me sound like a little kid on my blog? You better not be!  I know you still want me to wear poofy little girl dresses, mom! ;)

....I edit out more personal parts  or Hermana Lapp's letters that are directed towards me, however I couldn't resist posting that last sentence....That's MY GIRL!  I Love that girl to death!............. No pictures this week, however I thought I would post a "throwback".

Enjoy!

4 year old Scarlett "modeling" for her photo shoot.
P.S> Ok no more little girl photos!  (Maybe)

  1. I am so proud of you for running. I know its hard because I hate to run too.......only I''m sure I would trip all the time. You sound like you are being so spiritually fed.
What an amazing experience you are having. So, I am on a count down for my Switzerland trip. ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! Grandpa says Hi and that he loves you as I do! You know that you are not only doing this mission for your Heavenly Father, for the people, for you.....but for us for we probably won't be able to serve a mission because of my health issues. I love you dearly!
