Our investigator has a date for the 25th...it's cutting it close, so
we might have to push it a little, but if we see him enough we can do
it! He's funny! He's an old man who lives in a van. We teach him at
the church with a member.
My comp and I are complete opposites, but we get along really well and
I've yet to get super annoyed or angry with her. She probably has with
me---ESPECIALLY this week. I don't blame her though....I made the
dumbest mistakes. I would be mad at me I got pulled over for the
lights (new cars have day and night lights and I didn't know that)
Annd I locked the keys in the house. I know what you're thinking : oh
Scarlett that isn't surprising at all. And you're right. It isn't. But
we get along pretty well and we make videos on the iPad about our
experiences. She thinks it pretty funny after something really dumb
happens. Did I mention she's from Seattle? I'm her first companion
that hasn't been from Utah, so I'm pretty special ;)
We got the area book planner app and yesterday we tried to use
it....so confusing. But I think we are getting the hang of it
now....so that's good. It's pretty cool, but everytime we get a
referral or set an appointment we are going to have to whip out our
iPads instead of our agendas so that's going to be awkward. Maybe I'll
just get a little note book and write it down. Then I can just enter
it in at the end of the day. Right now we have to enter all our area
book records into the iPad. And if you ask any missionary they'd
probably say that's going to take forever. We have to do every record
that's ever been made from the past 2 years (and beyond if they were
taught a lot).
This week was pretty good though, other than all the dumb stuff I did.
I'm getting better at sports! I have to since I'm forced to play the
mornings we don't run and p day. It's pretty fun, actually. I enjoy
it. So yeah I'm getting super cultured out here on the mission.
Look up chucharon in a jar and imagine me eating a piece of that.... 😷
I eat so much Mexican food it's ridiculous. And their serving sizes
are huge so it's a good thing I have to run a lot and play sports and
be active. I would be fat otherwise.
Did you watch the funeral for president packer? We got to watch it and
it was very good. I actually learned a lot. The cool thing about
funerals is that it's one of he only times we get to hear an apostle
pray. It's so cool.
Cool things I learned from the funeral:
Let the pending items pend (always be willing to wait for the council
and inspiration from The Lord.)
Study of doctrine will improve behavior quicker than a study of
behavior will Improve behavior--Elder Packer
Cool things I learned during studies:
" Refrain from repeatedly thinking or saying negative words about
yourself--there is a clear difference between humility and
humiliation. Identify and use your unique talents rather than dwelling
on your weaknesses" this was from a talk and I have been dealing with
feeling really inadequate but this has really helped me. I've just set
really high expectations for myself and my comp always tells me that I
need to be ok with being a beginner. So, I'm learning. Slowly. I have
my days, but it's not as bad as it was at the beginning. Yesterday was
very hard and I was thinking that way, but I need to realize that I am
a beginner and enjoy it. I don't even worry about Spanish anymore. I'm
far from fluent, but I'm pretty advanced for how long I've been out.
I'll reassess in a month and see if I need to fix anything but
yesterday my comp said I speak like I've been here for 6 months (which
is still not very good, but I've only been here for almost 2 months.)
so out of all the things I'm stressing out about, that is not one of
them. At first it was but then I few weeks ago, I don't know what
happened. I just realized I'm a beginner and it will get better.
Tomorrow is my 3 month mark!!!! Woot woot!!
Time to email president! (We do that every week)
Love,
Hermana Lapp

In a van.....down by the river??? LOL! Sounds like your mission is expanding outside that comfort zone for you. That is good! It's how we grow! Hang in there sweetie!
